Can my friend who is in the USA Marines where an Islamic head dress while in Military Uniform?
He says he should be allowed to wear it because of his religion. So far the Marines allow him to wear it waiting for the courts to decide.
He also wears a beard.
His tee shirts (He wears off duty) says "Osama Bin Laden is the man".
Does he have freedom to wear off duty?

Before i say anything, let me tell you that I'm a 3rd sergeant in Singapore Army infantry, i am a Muslim myself. Let me pose a couple of question, Is there a need to have a beard? Is it really necessary to have such a provoking t-shirt? Shaving is too promote hygiene and equality among the corps, i see nothing wrong if he have to lose his beard. Off duty but still in the camp boundaries he still have to abide by the rules, no one is special. If he's not allow to perform the Solat during his spare time then it is an issue! Adapt to the situation not the situation adapt to us, be flexible but draw a line. Joining an army is to serve one's nation. FYI i still training as hard as ever even in the month of ramadan (fasting month)!
